The reunion weekend had flown by real quick, and just like that, our trip was over. My friends Katie, Bryan, and Steve were going to be hanging out in the DC area for a portion of the day before departing, so we decided to look around for a place to pick up some breakfast. Our friend Kiera recommended a place called Lori’s Table in Alexandria, not too far from where our Airbnb was, so we headed over to check it out.
Lori’s Table definitely feels like the epitome of a neighborhood spot, where it looks very unassuming from the outside, but it definitely seemed pretty busy with people stopping by to pick up some breakfast or coffee on their way to work. I had to remember that it was a Monday, which is likely why there were more people taking things to-go rather than sitting in the dining room at the back.
The full menu of offerings is posted up on the wall when you first walk in, with the counter to order off to the right, along with the griddle, coffee machines, and pastry displays. The breakfast options are relatively straightforward, with choices from sandwiches, wraps, or pastries. One of the breakfast sandwiches caught my eye above the rest: The Princess, notably for the fact that it had the most interesting sounding combination. Two fried eggs, bacon, and Dijon mustard, served on a baked croissant definitely piqued my interest; considering it was listed as one of their specialty sandwiches, I was trusting that it must be good. I’m a pretty big fan of potatoes during sit-down breakfast as well, so I tacked on a side portion of hash browns for my order.

All the way at the back of the restaurant, there is a moderate sized dining area containing wooden tables and chairs, for those that wanted to sit down and eat. There was probably enough seating for no more than 24 people or so. Since it was a Monday morning, there weren’t a lot of customers sitting down when we arrived, but the dining area slowly started to fill up as we were there.
It took a slight bit of time before our food arrived to the table, but we weren’t in a rush or anything that morning. The croissant for my breakfast sandwich ended up being probably one of the larger croissants I’d seen in a little while. It was certainly large enough to fit the two fried eggs and the bacon on there as well. The side order of hash browns also looked like the perfect complement to the sandwich.

For breakfast food, it’s pretty rare that I get the chance to taste something I haven’t experienced before. But in the instance of the Princess breakfast sandwich, this was definitely an eye-opener. There really was something about that Dijon mustard and egg combo, with the crispy bacon adding that savory and smoky flavor, along with the crunch for texture. The croissant was buttery and flaky, and was a perfect medium to tie all of the flavors together. After tasting that sandwich, I just might now have to start requesting for Dijon mustard whenever I get breakfast sandwiches just to see if I can re-create that same flavor combo again.
Breakfast sandwiches, breakfast platters, and coffee, it really doesn’t get more straightforward than that. It definitely seemed like there was a good amount of foot traffic coming in to get breakfast, whether that was to-go or dine-in. After giving their breakfast sandwich a try, I could see why. If you’re looking for a pretty good spot right on King Street to stop into, definitely give the options at Lori’s Table a look.
Let’s now take a look at the Lori’s Table Dish Spotlight. Asterisks (*) below mark my recommended dishes.

And finally, here are my rankings for Lori’s Table:
Food: 4.25 / 5
Breakfast sandwiches are their specialty from the menu, and mine did not disappoint. You definitely knew that everything was cooked fresh, both from the way it tasted and looked.
Atmosphere: 4 / 5
I definitely felt like the dining area was more functional rather than set up as a full-fledged dining room, especially since you ordered at the counter and then took a seat back there. I did get the impression from the décor that it’s as if you’re sitting in someone’s home.
Service: 4 / 5
Lori herself was hard at work behind the grill, and it seemed like she and her staff did good to keep up with the breakfast rush. We got our food in a pretty reasonable amount of time.
Price: 4.25 / 5
A breakfast sandwich clocking in at over $7? It definitely leaned on the more expensive side, especially for sandwich alone. But it was a bit of a larger portion, and for the flavor combo, I’d definitely pay it again.
