EAT FANTASTIC

A couple of weeks ago, I was going down to El Segundo for a site visit with my friends Frank, Erik, and Zach. We had left pretty early in order to try to get ahead of the Friday rush hour traffic and ended up getting to our destination with a good amount of time to burn. We ended up stopping by at a breakfast spot nearby called Eat Fantastic to pick up some food before we started our site visit.

I had only found the place that morning after doing some searching on Yelp before we made the drive down there, which had received some pretty positive reviews and their food photos looked real good. The restaurant itself is open for all three meals of the day, but for their breakfast, they feature a number of different options ranging from burritos to sandwiches to omelettes. It also looked like they had breakfast platters that featured French toast, pancakes, and waffles as well.

For me, the breakfast burrito was sounding pretty good at that moment. The burrito itself contained eggs, hash browns, pico de gallo, and cheddar cheese, with your choice of protein and different add-ons like avocado, sour cream, their “secret red sauce,” and salsa. I opted to get mine with chorizo as the protein, took away the cheese, and added on avocado and salsa on the side.

I’d say that the dining area is moderately sized, with both indoor and outdoor seating options available. Inside, there was a mix between booths and tables for seating. Given that we were there pretty early in the day, there were only a few other groups there eating breakfast (presumably from some of the office buildings nearby), in addition to some people stopping in for to-go orders.

The burrito ended up being a pretty good size for breakfast portions, and it definitely had some heft when you lifted up the tray. I cut it in half to take a look at the cross-section, and it looked fantastic. I really liked how all of the different ingredients were pronounced and you could make them out individually: eggs, hash browns, chorizo, pico de gallo, and avocado. It also looked like there was a good ratio between the ingredients, where sometimes I’ve seen breakfast burritos get loaded heavy with the potatoes and skimp out on everything else. Not this one from Eat Fantastic.

Each bite had that signature flavor from chorizo, and I liked the freshness that came from the pico de gallo and avocado. The eggs and hash browns were nice complements to the other ingredients to also have some standard breakfast flavors in there as well. The red salsa that they provided on the side made for a nice punch to drizzle on top of the burrito prior to each bite. It definitely brought the spiciness with it, not to mention adding some moisture to the burrito as well, which was inherently a bit more on the dry side. Talk about a pretty solid breakfast burrito all around.

It definitely makes me a little envious that the people working in the offices nearby have a place like Eat Fantastic within walking distance that they can stop by for some breakfast if they feel like it in the morning. For $9, I thought that the breakfast burrito was well-sized, had a good amount of ratio between the different ingredients, and tasted great. I can see why there were quite a few people we saw filtering through getting to-go orders, because the food here is solid. If you’re looking for a good food option to start your day, give the menu at Eat Fantastic a look to see if anything might call to you.

Let’s now take a look at the Eat Fantastic Dish Spotlight. Asterisks (*) below mark my recommended dishes.

And finally, here are my rankings for Eat Fantastic:

Food: 4.5 / 5

You could tell that the breakfast food was freshly made on the griddle with high quality ingredients. For breakfast, the menu also features a nice variety of other options as well, including sandwiches, omelettes, and platters.

Atmosphere: 4.25 / 5

There’s a nice blend between indoor and outdoor seating available at this place. The décor and dining furniture definitely gave off a more modern feel to the space as well.

Service: 4 / 5

The kitchen staff cooked up our food in no time, probably getting out to our table a couple minutes after we placed our order. That speed was impressive while still maintaining the quality of the food as well.

Price: 4.5 / 5

Good-sized portions for a reasonable price, you can’t go wrong with that. The $9 I paid for the breakfast burrito is something I’d pay again, given how filling it was and the flavor combinations really hitting the spot.
