ARGONAUT
Address: 1433 H Street NE, Washington, D.C. 20002
My friend Andrew and I like to get together trying different restaurants during our breaks from work, rotating between those on the D.C. side and those on the Virginia side. A few days ago, it was my turn to head out to D.C., where we headed over to H Street to visit Argonaut.
It was my first time going to this place, but Andrew had gone there a few times before, so he was able to recommend some things on the menu. A little bonus for us too was that since it was Monday night, they had their 25 cent wing night going on. After finding that out, it was an easy choice to order some for an appetizer. With wings that well-priced, we went ahead and tried all three flavor choices (buffalo, mango barbecue, and sweet chili). Out of the three, I think my personal favorite was the mango barbecue. The sweetness of barbecue sauce coupled with that slight hint of mango seemed to really go well with their wings.
At Andrew’s recommendation, I ordered with the D.C. Cheesesteak with some sweet potato fries, and it was fantastic. The shaved steak was nice and moist, the onions were softened but still had a little crunch in them, and the blue cheese sauce really tied everything together really well. The sauce was well distributed so that you get a slight “blue cheese tang” in every bite, not drowning out everything with just blue cheese flavor. The sweet potato fries were also crispy and salted just right (they tasted even better dipped in a bit of ranch).
From my first impression, Argonaut seems like a good place to stop by after work to grab some food and a nice beer, with a pretty casual atmosphere. I think that the term “gastropub” could definitely be used to describe Argonaut (I even commented that the interior reminded me of a pub while we were eating). With good food, good drinks, and good pricing, it’s a place I would certainly go back to for another round.
Let’s now take a look at the Argonaut Dish Spotlight. Asterisks (*) below mark my recommended dishes.

And finally, here are my rankings for Argonaut:
Food: 4.5 / 5
My cheesesteak was cooked really well and tasted delicious, and the menu offers a number of other items that sound great as well. 25 cent wing night seems like such a steal, too.
Atmosphere: 4.75 / 5
Like I mentioned above, the restaurant’s interior gave me the “pub” vibe, and the overall atmosphere seemed very relaxed. A nice place to enjoy a fairly low-key meal to just to hang out.
Service: 4.75 / 5
Our waitress was really friendly and came back around to check on us multiple times during our meal. Our food also arrived out of the kitchen really fast: the wings came first and no more than 5 minutes later, our cheesesteaks were out as well.
Price: 4.25 / 5
I think that the pricing of both the food and drink is pretty good, especially for the quantity you get. I left the restaurant feeling satisfied with what I paid.
Overall:
18.25 / 20
